ACTION CALLS MOVE TO SENATE!

Immediate Action Items for the Week beginning 4/22/2013 – The Battle in the Senate

The state senate will be meeting this week to discuss the budget.  The PARCC reference successfully removed in the House was a good start, but we need more on this leg of the journey to ensure that Common Core is not further entrenched with HB59.  As such, we would be grateful for your help with these action items:

LEVEL ONE PRIORITY – OHIO SENATE, Wednesday’s Hearing and Action Calls

Please join us at Wednesday’s hearing of the Education Sub Committee,
9:30 am South Hearing Rm, 2nd Floor  Topics-ODE and 21st Century Learning

Let them know you are watching and that you are not going away.

Please call your state senator http://www.ohiosenate.gov/senate/index and tell he/she that you want an “all-back-full” on Common Core funding and implementation until it gets a thorough vetting.  Including but not limited to:

  1. Appropriation item 400426 (Section 263.70) that allots $10 million for connectivity upgrades necessary for K-12 school buildings with severely restricted broadband connections (the only reason they need this is to force the all-computerized national tests, i.e., PARCC).
  2. All appropriations funding the student longitudinal database upgrade under EMIS, (Section 263.120) which will allow personally identifiable information on our children to be shared with Everyone under the sun via the new FERPA laws.
  3. Remind them that the Senate Education Sub-Committee hearing Wednesday addresses the ODE and 21st Century Learning appropriations (one of the many alias’ of Common Core)   Just say NO Senator!

LEVEL TWO PRIORITY – CONTINUE TO CALL YOUR OHIO HOUSE REP

Please call your Ohio House Representative to remind them that you are still expecting them to do an all-back-full on Common Core and all of its components and that you don’t appreciate Speaker Batchelder, Rep. Stebelton, Sen. Randy Gardner & Kasich/SBOE appointee Mr. Ross trying to usurp the will of the people by denying us a voice.  http://www.ohiohouse.gov/index

LEVEL THREE PRIORITY – CALL YOUR STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER

Call your State School Board member and ask them why no opposing viewpoint to this one-size-fits-all national standards/curriculum was presented, and why they acted outside of their jurisdiction.  Request an all-back-full of Common Core. http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages/ODE/ODEDetail.aspx?page=3&TopicRelationID=575&ContentID=58806

LEVEL FOUR PRIORITY – US SENATOR AND CONGRESSMAN

Please call Rob Portman’s office and ask him to sign Sen. Chuck Grassley’s petition to defund Common Core at the national level (don’t waste your minutes on Sen. Brown). 202-224-3353

Please call Your US Representative and ask him/her to sign Rep. Luktemeyer’s letter to Arne Duncan concerning Common Core. http://www.house.gov/representatives/find

SUMMARY

We continue to pour over two years of State School Board minutes, the Ohio Revised Code and its legislative modifiers, and all we can say is that America’s domestic enemies are good, really good. Sadly, not one legislator or State School Board member of either party had our backs…so once again, it’s up to us to modify their behavior and/or find their replacements.

Yours In Liberty,

OACC

  1. Does anyone know how the meeting went yesterday?

    • OhioansAgainstCommonCore says:

Yes, we were there but they have been programmed to never say Common Core. 21st Century Learning is a synonym for CCS along with College and Career Readiness. Closest they, Barbara Smith and Dick Ross, came was to say that one of the three most critical points to the Educ budget is the data analytics, which we all know as the great data mine. They are salivating over it and all the analyses they will be able to prepare. And they LOVE the Straight A program. These hearings are mostly a dog and pony show, but we did get a sense for the personalities at the governor’s office and they play the elitists establishment role pretty well. Thank you for all your efforts!  -OACC
